a Study of English teacher’s syllabus design based on the students’ needs of the seventh grade of SMP al Falah Deltasari, Sidoarjo
This research conducted to know about how the teacher designs syllabus based on students’ needs of the seventh grade of SMP Al FalahDeltasari, Sidoarjo. In order to know the answer of the research, the researcher has done the interview process and gave questionnaire to the students.Based on the result of the interview and questionnaire, there are three stages that are used by the teacher of SMP Al FalahDeltasariSidoarjo in designing syllabus. They are pre designing syllabus stage, designing syllabus stage, and evaluating syllabus stages. Pre designing syllabus is also known as needs analysis (needs assessment) process. Designing syllabus stages is the stage of applying the students’ needsin the syllabus designinclude assessingcompetence standardandbasic competence, identifyinglearning materials, developinglearning activities, formulatinglearningobjectives (Indicators), determining evaluation tools, determining the time allocation, selecting learning resources. The last stage of the teacher in designing syllabus based on students’ needs is Syllabus Evaluation. It checks whether teacher’s syllabus designs meet the students’ needs. Hopefully, further researchers can find outaboutthe effectiveness ofthesyllabus thathas beenprepared bythe teacherto thestudents' learning needsin the classroom. This researchonlyfocused onfiguring outhow the teacher designs syllabus based on students’ needs. However whetherthesyllabusdesigns of the teachercan meet the needs ofstudentsstill unknown. Therefore, itwould beverygoodifthe effectiveness ofthesyllabuscan be known by further researchers.
