Status and position of women is a central part of gender studies. In this topic, correlation between gender and religion, including Islam, is undisputable. The main question is whether Islam improves position of women or in contrast degrades it. This question is even harder to answer if we compare between the era of the coming of Islam and the later era when the prophet has passed away. The paper will try to answer the question and focuses on examining the status of Muslim women throughout Islam history in general manner with reference of the ideal situation of prophet. Several aspects should be investigated. Among those aspects are the intellectual origin of Muslim feminism, situation of women in both pre Islam and early Islam and the depiction of women in Islamic scholarship and institution the argument is that women's situation is believed to have deteriorated post prophet period onward. Many improvements have been brought backward in comparison to the ideal picture within...ifa.
