This article explores the issue on domestic violence including the factors cause domestic violence, the possible solutions as well as the legal protection in the light of the law of number 23/2004 on the elimination of domestic violence. Violence Against woman is one of serious problems in many areas all over the world including Indonesia. The author believes that by considering the high occurrence of domestic violence in Indonesia and the poor legal protection, violence within the domestic sphere is a punishable crime. The causes behind the high occurrence of domestic violence are various with the variety of ranges including economic depedence, bias from patriarchal culture that not only affects women's way of thingking but also men's way of thingking. Men grow with values that men have to be tough and able to conquer 'the wife' and other ideologies. The law number 23 years 2004 covers many aspects of violence not only physical violence but also other kinds of violence...ifa.
