Gender analysis on the Indonesian law No: 23 Year 2004 about the abolition of domestic violence :
In 2004 the Indonesian goverment has launched Law No. 23 year 2004 about the Abolition of Domestic Violence in response to increasing demand on that issue across the world. This policy is intended to encourage gender equality practices especially in family scope. Unfortunately, the policy design seems to ignore the pronplonged social construct in Indonesia which supports male dominated relationship patterns transmitted to private life as well. This paper aims to analyse how gender analysis has been properly undertaken in policy making. The preliminary findings indicate that the policy might not be implemented effectively since it disregards the important roles of both traditional and religious institution in shaping men-women relationships. Moreover, such state intervention into private life may lead to high resistance from both men and women parties.ifa.
