The existence of hadith sciences [ulum al hadith] as an independent discipline has been aged a few centuries since its birth 5 centuries ago. Yet the development of the science has been is less dynamic-not to say stagnant. Hadith studies almost did not move from the three focal studies: the authenticity of hadith, the meaning of hadith, and the living hadith. The third model, which is involving the social sviences, has not been done. Therefore, this paper would study one of the living hadith that is the practices of aqiqah traditions in Ponorogo district. This study focuses to know the social construction of the theologians of Ponorogo about aqiqah traditions that include the hadith about the meaning of aqiqah, the time of aqiqah implementation, the kind of animal species and its number, of animals aqiqah. In accordance with the issues examined, this research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological study, namely social construction. The results of this study indicate..ifa.
