The existence of reference service in an academic library has long been in operation, as long as the library itself. However, compared to its equel public service of circulation, this service is less used by the users. This is because they might not understand how to use it and the purpose of its existence. In this article, the author emphrasizes the importance of reference service in academic library and introduces its role in providing the service to the users.
