The development carried out by the government of new order accentuates more on economic growth, but neglects the economic distribution. The rapid economic growth resulted from developmentalism policy was taken advantage only by the have class society. As a result, a wider socio-economic gap in Indonesiawas an indisputable fact. The lower middle class could not access to the same sources due to their mental factor mainly influenced by the mainstream of Javaneseculture [Kejawen]. There are three symbols of Kejawen that can weaken the development process; overwhelming esteem to social strata, the belief on mystics, and being proud of descendance. Those three symbols must be eradicated by building mental system through education approach, civilization, and counseling. The most accurate instrument to do this is rational and egalitarian principle in understanding Islam.yo.
