This article deals with a brief description on the conceptual contention between nationalism and politics throughout the history of Islamic thought in several Muslim countries. The writer begins with the birth of nationalismin Europe and its influence on the world of Islam. Intellectual response from the world of Islam becomes the main concern of this article, namely among the Muslim thinkers in Muslim countries, both those who for and against the concept of nationalism, until the failures of Muslim countries in formulating the concept ofnationalism on the basis of Muslim countries in formulating the concept of nationalism on the basis of muslim reality in several muslim countries. This article also takes into account some pitfalls of new tribalism among Arab community as anegative response towards the concept of nationalism as already existed in Europe. The ideas offered by the writer is the need to an understanding on local culture as the background of new nationalism............yo.
