Efek perlindungan sel endothel olehekstrak air bawang putih [Allium sativum Linn] pada hyperkolesterolemia :
The aim of this study was to prove that equeous extract of garlic can prevent endothelial cell damage on hypercholesterolemia. This study used completely randomised design. Thirty five male rabbits [1.5 - 2 kg BW] were used in the expriment. Rabbits were divided into five groups of seven each and were treated as follows: Group A AS negative control were given aquadest 5 ml/kg BW/day for 4 weeks; Groups B AS positive control were given aquadest 5 ml/kg BW/day+cholesterol 0.2 g/kg BW/day for 4 weeks; Group C AS positive control were given cholesterol 0.2 g/kg BW/day+aqueous extract of garlic 25 persen, 5 ml/kg BW/day for 4 weeks. Group D AS were given cholesterol 0.2 g/kg BW/day +aqueous extract of garlic 50 persen, 5 ml/kg BW/day for 4 weeks. Group E AS were given cholesterol 0.2 g/kg BW/day +aqueous extract of garlic 75 persen, 5 ml/kg BW/day for 4 weeks. The result showed that aqueous extract of garlic decresed circulating endhotel [p0.1], but not MDA [p0.1].yo.
