The dichotomy between Islamic studies and non-Islamic studies, or between religious and secular sciences, represents a long debated discourse. It emerged as a result of the misunderstanding conducted by muslim generations of post al Ghazali of the categorisation of science into fard 'ayn and fard kifayah kinds, or 'ulum al din and ulum al dunya. This categorisation has given rise to the backwardness of Muslims in intellectual capability and mastery of science and technology. Attempts to reunderstand the discourse of dichotomy of science and to promote integration between sciences in light of Islamic principles appearto be the pressing need of muslim intellectuals to fulfill.yo.
