This study is conducted on error analysis of pronunciation of silent letters in English words made by the tenth grade students at SMAN 1 Wonoayu, Sidoarjo. The focus of this research is to know the silent letter in English words commonly pronounced incorrectly by students based on the aspect of silent letters, the causes of students making error and the way of the teacher dealing with pronunciation errors. rnSome cases of pronunciation come because the students are not native speaking of English. And pronunciation is not taught independently in the school. The research defines this topic because she finds that most of students pronounced error in pronouncing silent letters in English words. Whereas pronounce incorrect can make misunderstanding among the speakers. rn In this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative as the design of her research. Data collections technique uses in this research are observation, interview and questionnaire. The observation is to observe the class and to get the data from the error in pronouncing silent letter in English words. The interview is to interview the teacher to know the teacher deals with pronunciation errors in the class. rnFrom the analysis of the observation list and recording, the researcher gets 27 words that are pronounced incorrectly by the students. The words which have the initial letter [w] are the most error pronunciation produced by the students. From the result of questionnaires the researcher finds out that the main causes of students making error are because their native language, 36,7% of students feel that pronouncing English is difficult, because the written and spelling is different. Other causes are their motivation to learn English, and their knowledge of pronouncing silent letters. Most of students do not know the difference between the words which.
