Al Qur'an claims itself as a guide for human being [hudan li al nas]. However, it will function as guide for human life, if they are ready to function it actively. Therefore, since the period of Rasulullah until now Muslims have been interpreting and understanding al Qur'an, from which all sorts of methodologies have been produced: translation, exegesis, ta'wil, and hermeneutics of al Qur'an. The emergence and the development of all sort of all sorts of methodologies basically represent the efforts to produce meanings of al Qur'an, used as the bases for justification and practice of Muslim's struggle for their survival in this world. The efforts are accomplished by breaking down the universal teachings of al Qur'an into details in order to become functional in certain time and space. Among the thinkers conducting the effort is Farid Esack, a leading intellectual and activist from South Africa. Based on the Qur'anic perspective on interreligious brotherhood and cooperation,.........yo.
