Rate of interest is prohibited in Islam because it cannot be used us a basis of discount rate in evaluating a capital project. As a subtitute, rate of return can be applied from the perspective of shari'ah. It is due to the fact that rate the return countains a risk that can be stated based on the profit attained. The variable that can be acknoledged as a basis of discount rate have to fulfill the conditions, among other thing: a. A profit that will be gained is not allowed to be stated in the preliminary transaction, but at the end of the period of the investement by looking at the average of revenue each year, b. The rate of discount can be taken based onthe profits obtained, c. The disadvantage cannot be entirely charged to the operators of the project.he.
